Heartburn Acid Reflux

Does Heartburn Acid Reflux Keep You Awake at Night?

At one time or another, we have all experienced heartburn. Acid reflux disease is not as common as heartburn but is the cause of this uncomfortable condition. You will remember heartburn as that awful burning sensation in your chest, right behind your breastbone. The more severe form of heartburn is acid reflux disease, also known as GERD.

This is a disorder that allows acid to go back up into the esophagus from the stomach through a weakened sphincter muscle, which can be caused by a myriad of things.

Heartburn acid reflux is both annoying and exhausting and affects millions of us every day. Unless we become proactive in changing these conditions, it will continue to grow worse over time. The first thing you should do when you suspect these symptoms, is to contact your doctor and be diagnosed. It may not be just the simple heartburn. Acid reflux disease is very serious and can cause damage to the esophagus as well as your throat.

When you start taking over the counter medications, like Pepcid AC, and the others that are meant for these types of symptoms, you are increasing your risk to the heavy metals contained in these medications. There have been studies showing that 97% of heartburn acid reflux can be treated naturally.

The very first thing to do will be to change your lifestyle. This will take some planning on your part as well as self-discipline. You can start by eating smaller meals and eating more frequently.

Avoid fatty foods, such as fatty meats, fried foods and high fat dairy products. Avoid eating foods close to bedtime, give yourself at least 2 hours before retiring after your last meal.

If you are still having trouble with nighttime heartburn acid reflux, you can try using a wonderful invention called an acid reflux pillow. This is a wedge shaped pillow designed for this purpose. By using this, you will give your body the correct support, giving you back your sleep.

There is no perfect remedy for heartburn acid reflux, but you can try the natural methods first, then if they don’t work, you can go the antacid route. At least you will have given it your best try. But then, on the other hand, you may find that these will work wonderfully for you. You never know until you try.
