Acid Reflux

Acid Reflux is Not Your Typical Heartburn

If you are an acid reflux sufferer along with the millions surrounding you, then you know how miserable this really is. You know there are a lot of people that suffer from this, but you may not have known that at least 7% of the worlds population suffers from this disease.

Acid reflux is something that is chronic, just seems to keep hanging around. This is not your typical heartburn that everyone seems to get once in while, like after a big meal. This is serious disorder, this is a Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disorder, also called GERD. There are the symptoms of heartburn associated with this, but there are more that you need to be aware of.

1. Heartburn – This can make us feel like our chest is burning like being on fire. Of course, we know it’s not really on fire, but the burning sensation is real. The gastric acid comes into the esophagus creating this burning, typically showing up an hour or two after eating your meal.

2. Bitter Taste – This tends to come along with the heartburn, and is caused by the stomach acid and any food that has not been completely digested. This will cause you to have a bitter or a sour taste in your mouth and back of your throat.

3. Problem Swallowing – This can happen in the more advanced stages of acid reflux disease.

4. Nausea – You can be hit with this anytime, day or night, but the most typical time is morning.

5. Pain In Your Chest – There have been many who thought they were having a heart attack and found it to be acid reflux and heartburn, then there are those who are having a heart attack and brush it off as simple heartburn. It is so easy to confuse the two as they have similar symptoms. Either way, you need medical attention, better to find out that its just heartburn.

6. Throat Problems – Acid reflux can cause some disorders in your throat from the constant exposure to the stomach acids. These can be a sore throat, laryngitis, or feeling like you have a swollen throat.

Acid reflux is a very disturbing and painful disease, but can be treated. Talk to your doctor about his or her best recommendation. There are so many things that will help as far as diet and some over the counter drugs. Find out what your options are. No need to suffer if you don’t have to.
